Sign ordinance updates favor
Cape farms
The Town Council on May 27 unanimously approved a set of amendments to the
sign ordinance to help make Cape Elizabeth farmers, their products and their
efforts more visable, particularly during the growing season.
Councilors approved the proposed changes following a public hearing.
Penny Jordan, an owner of Jordan's Farm on Wells Road and an organizer of
the Cape Elizabeth Farm Alliance, thanked the council for their support.
The alliance began meeting this winter with an eye toward increasing the
viability of farming in Cape Elizabeth. Part of the group's goal is to streamline
some of the town's regulations as they relate to farms and farming.
Included in the sign ordinance amendments is a new definition of "agricultural
operations", and an increase to the number of off-site signs allowed by such
operations.
The ordinance updates go into effect in 30 days.
