Library art gallery features 'Apparent Glimmerings' for January

Boston-based artist Deborah Barlow has brought a collection of her paintings - both very large and small - from recent shows in Provincetown, San Francisco, Manhattan, and Santa Fe to Cape Elizabeth for the month of January.

Barlow's exhibit, "Apparent Glimmerings" is on display in the gallery at the Thomas Memorial Library. (directions)

A reception and a talk by Barlow will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, 2012 at the library.

In a review in Art in New England, critic Jan Lhormer wrote that “Barlow combines minimalism and ‘maximalism’ to fuse a unique vision…a deep sense of form underlies the complex, nonobjective picture plane, linking the work to landscape and elements of nature.”, according to a press release for the show. This summer Art News magazine described Barlow’s approach as a “soulful, sympathetic sensibility that is rare to find in such an obsessive technician.”, the release says.
