Shore Road to be closed Aug. 25 for culvert replacement
Shore Road will be closed Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010 to allow replacement of a failed culvert just north of Dyer Pond Road.
"The culvert has collapsed and a sinkhole could occur in the traveled way if we do not address the situation right way," said Public Works Director Robert Malley.
Shore Road will be closed at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 25 until a new pipe is installed and properly backfilled, Malley said. He anticipates the road will reopen to through traffic at approximately 7 p.m.
Residential street access
All residential streets from Julie Ann Lane to Dyer Pond Road will be accessible from the southern, or Town Center end of Shore Road, including Delano Park Entrance No. 2. All residential streets up to, and including Delano Park Entrance No. 1 will be accessible from the north, or South Portland end of Shore Road.
Signage will be placed at both ends of Shore Road. The "Road Closed" barricades and signage will be placed on Shore Road at the old main gate of Fort Williams Park and on Shore Road at the Robinson Woods parking area. Traffic control personnel will be at both sites directing motorists to alternate routes.
Malley said the Town is partnering with a local contractor to complete the project. The required replacement pipe is not readily available and is on order from the manufacturer, he said. It is scheduled to arrive on or before Aug. 20.
