As deadline nears, residents show interest in Nov. 2 municipal nominations

As of the morning of Aug. 31, 2010, four residents have shown an interest in running for Town Council in the upcoming November municipal election.

Incumbent Frank Governali, along with newcomers Caitlin Jordan, James Wagner and Leslie Buhrman, have taken out nominating petitions for the election to be held Nov. 2.

Two seats on the Town Council and two on the School Board will be up for election. All are three-year terms. In addition, one five-year term on the Portland Water District Board of Trustees will be on the Nov. 2 ballot.

In the School Board race, incumbent Linda Winker has taken out nominating petitions, as has newcomer Kimberly Monaghan-Derrig.

None of those taking out petitions for municipal office have returned them, said Town Clerk Debra Lane. Deadline for completion of petitions is Friday, Sept. 3.

Incumbent Portland Water District Trustee John Brady, who represents both Cape Elizabeth and South Portland on the board, has returned petitions to the Cape Elizabeth clerk's office, but still needs to complete paper work in South Portland, Lane said.

Seats that will be up for election on the Town Council are currently held by Governali and Penny Jordan; and on the School Board by Winker and Rebecca Millett.

Nominating petitions are available at the clerk's office at Town Hall, 320 Ocean House Road. For more information please contact Debra Lane, 799-7665. (Click here to download a manual on trustee candidacy from the Portland Water district website.)
