Great Pond boat storage permits expected to be available April 15
Permits to store boats at Great Pond will be available April 15, 2010.
The permit system is part of new boat storage rules that are now in effect. Boats, canoes or kayaks remaining in the vegetative buffer surrounding the pond after March 25 will be removed.
Because this is the first year for the new boat-storage facility, the Town needs additional time to establish the fee and to construct a boat-storage rack.
The Town Council is expected to establish an annual fee for Great Pond boat storage at its April 12 meeting. Until then, the Town will maintain a waiting list for those who would like a permit. A total of 30 permits will be issued annually on a first-come, first-served basis.
Residents wishing to be on the waiting list may call or e-mail Assistant Town Manager Debra Lane, 799-7665. After the council sets the fee April 12, residents may apply for a permit at Town Hall, 320 Ocean House Road.
The Conservation Commission is scheduled to complete the storage rack before the end of March, but construction may move into April if hampered by bad weather. Construction work parties are slated for 9 a.m. Saturdays March 13 and 20 - anyone wishing to help may meet commission volunteers at the boat launch, near the Fen way Road entrance.
Boaters may continue to bring their boats to Great Pond for day use. The permit only regulates storage of boats.
