Storm-debris collection scheduled for March 29

A townwide, storm-debris collection has been scheduled for March 29, 2010.

The collection is in response to the wind and rain storm of Feb. 25-26 responsible for damaging trees, downing power lines and closing school on Feb. 26.

"Due to the fact that we still have the potential for plowable snow, we have scheduled the collection to commence on Monday, March 29," said Public Works Director Robert Malley.

Homeowners wishing to take advantage of the collection should have their tree portions and limbs on the edge of curb by 7 a.m. on the 29th.

The collection, Malley said, is for debris generated as a direct result of the storm event only. "This is not a heavy item collection and does not include white goods, leaf, and yard waste," he said.

The Town has waived the disposal fees for residents who bring debris to the Recycling Center on their own. (03/24/10 - fee waiver ended March 20, 2010). The waiver applies to contractors as well, as long as they provide verification that the material came from Cape Elizabeth.
