School budget on council agenda
for morning meeting June 26
The school budget will be on the agenda when the Town Council meets for a
special session Thursday, June 26, 2008, at 7 a.m. in the Town Hall chamber.
The council set the unusual morning meeting earlier this month to take care
of other business, including consideration of a lease for the fitness center,
and the status of collective bargaining. It was the only time councilors
could meet.
Since the meeting was scheduled on June 9, however, Cape Elizabeth voters
turned down the council's approved school budget for 2008-09 in a June 10
validation election, and the School Board has met to again recommend a school
budget increase of 6 percent over this year's spending.
When the council meets Thursday, they will consider the town manager's
recommendation to set a public hearing on the budget for their next regular
meeting, Monday, July 14, 7:30 p.m. in the Town Hall chamber. The manager
is further recommending the council adopt the budget that night, and set
another validation vote for Tuesday, July 22.
Town officials are now planning to have the June 26 meeting broadcast on
CETV, Cable Channel 3.
